Writer, director and soon to be UTS graduate, Jon Renton is in the process of brining his short film 947 Letters to life and it was a pleasure to lend a hand and help bring his tale of loss and family to life as 1st Assistant Director.

With an enthusiastic crew of student filmmakers behind us the 4 day shoot saw us set up shop in Sydney’s cafe’s, alleyways and suburbs, with the Canon 5D MKII’s full frame producing some gorgeous images in our largely low lit environments. Under the watchful eye of DP Oscar Partridge and aided by equipment including the versatile Wally Dolly, superb Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS II Lens and a top of the line Red Rock Micro rails and follow focus kit, the shoot went off without a hitch. Jon’s enthusiastic but relaxed approach meant it was a pleasure to both learn from and work for him, and I expect he will have no trouble finding assistance on his future projects.

All in all a great experience helping to create what will most certainly be a moving and polished production.
